Scandinavian style, lets discover one of the most beloved styles when it comes to furniture.

The purpose of making your home more comfortable with just a few things, it’s possible with the Nordic or Scandinavian style. The three most important elements that characterized the Scandinavian style are: hot blankets, wood furniture and light colours.

The History of the Nordic style

This specific style, very popular in home furnishing, originated in Northern European countries. it's aims are not aesthetic, but rather functional aims; to make cozy all those cold spaces in your home, characterised by a very cold climate, especially in winter. 
Its fame depends on the fact that it doesn't match well only with mountain houses, but it can be suitable also for those houses located near the see or the cities, because in this way it can be re-created a cozy and elegant atmosphere embracing the philosophy of essentiality.

Simple and essential lines

To realise a Nordic style of furnishing, it is essential to follow some very precise rules. First of all, as we have already pointed out, in this style, furniture is not chosen for its aesthetics but for its functionality, so minimalist furniture is essential. Rooms in Nordic houses are clean, tidy, spacious and bright.

A feature that should definitely not be underestimated is that of comfort. The fact that it is simple and functional does not mean that it is cold and detached. The characteristic of the Scandinavian style is to use a few functional elements to create a welcoming environment in which to relax and be happy.


Materials, fabrics and colours

The first material choice is definitely wood, both because of the connection the Nordic countries have with the natural environment and their propensity for a sustainable approach.
Parquet flooring is widely used in homes furnished in this style.
Other materials that match wood are stone, leather and natural fabrics that are mainly warm and soft.
The warmest fabrics are: wool, cotton, linen and at one time also fur, now replaced by synthetic fur. As far as colours are concerned, it is evident at first glance that white and in general soft, light colours are preferred. This is because of the need to give light to the home, given that the winter months are characterised almost by the absence of natural light.
The favourite colours and tones of this style are therefore neutral and natural colours, although in some cases a few touches of black are used to create a nice contrast.
